One of the best instructors in the world – ‘an instructor’s instructor’. Soke Hausel has developed a brilliant system of teaching martial arts that keep the practitioners safe while teaching extraordinary powerful self-defense applications & introducing concepts in different ways keeping the interest the student’s interest.

For an expert in many martial arts - certifications in 18 martial arts along with 8 different black belts - Dan is mild mannered and easy going. The highest rank one can achieve in Okinawan karate is a 10th degree black belt (or red belt). The highest honor is that of Soke (Grandmaster). Dan was awarded Grandmaster of the Seiyo Shorin-Ryu Karate Style in 1999 and 10th degree black belt in 2004 at the Juko Kai International Hombu (Headquarters) and later at the World Organizer of Martial Arts & was certified by Zen Kokusai Soke Budo/Bugei Remnei & confirmed by other major martial arts organizations. He has been awarded the titles of Samurai, Kyoju (Professor of Martial Arts) & a PhD in Japanese Martial Arts Sciences.

Few of Dan’s students compete in tournaments: most are satisfied with their progress in the dojo (gym). The few that have gone to the arena in the past 35 years & returned with 47% gold, 27% silver and 20% bronze medals as well as national championships in more than one country (a success rate unmatched). “Martial arts are about the individual”. “It is about learning self-defense, meditation and incorporating these into your daily life to make you more healthy, self-confident and positive”. “Martial arts should transcend ego”.

Several hundred years ago Okinawan martial artists invented a method to practice martial arts that consisted of a mixture of shadow boxing, dancing, self-defense and Zen. Kata incorporates all of these and were made to look like traditional dances borrowing movements from animals. In these forms are hidden hundreds of very effective self-defense applications that are not taught to sport martial arts forms in the US & Japan.
